Cost: $10.00 registration fee for each workshop unless otherwise noted.

Registration:
Register for all workshops by calling Foundation for Success 794-6621 or contact us by email.

Training Times:
All workshops are held 6:30-8:30 p.m.

Licensing Credits: All workshops are approved for the Boise Cares program and provide two hours of Boise City or Idaho State licensing credit for childcare providers unless otherwise noted. The core competency is noted after each workshop description.

Refunds: No refunds are given for missed workshops.

June 1st (Tuesday) Why Can't You See Things My Way?
Do you ever find yourself fighting a battle that never seems to end? Every person on the planet has a different outlook on "how things are" - including children! Understand how our perception of the world around us influences behavior; Discover important strategies that will bring understanding when conflict arises.

June 10th (Thursday) Positive Time-out
Time-out need not be a punishing confinement or a battle of wills between you and a child. Positive time-out, effectively used, is an opportunity for children to feel better. And when children feel better, they behave better. Learn techniques that you can use to make time-out a "cooling off" period and a time for teaching children to make better choices.

June 14th (Monday) Ten Things Every Child Needs
Can a child's I.Q. be improved during the first years of life! Researchers say yes, if the child receives ten simple things shown to help children's brains develop: interaction, loving touch, stable relationships, safe healthy environments, self esteem, quality child care, play, communication, music and reading. Join us as we learn how our earliest interactions with children influence brain development

June 15th (Tuesday) Flexible, Fearful, or Feisty: The Different Temperaments of Infants and Toddlers
Children come into the world with different temperamental tendencies that play a major role in behavior. Temperament has a strong impact on the relationships that infants and toddlers have with their caregivers. An understanding of temperament will help caregivers work with individual children and groups of children more effectively.

June 17th (Thursday) Learning to Look, Looking to Learn
Observation is basic to everything early childhood educators do. It helps providers learn about children, evaluate their program, and measure the children's progress. In this workshop we will practice doing objective observations, learn how to overcome obstacles to observation, and how information we have gathered can help each individual child in our care.

June 21st (Monday) The Importance of Music and Movement
Explore how music affects all of us; identify how music activities promote children's socio-emotional, cognitive, and physical development and learn ways that adults can facilitate children's participation in music activities. We will have fun making musical instruments out of objects that are easily found around the house.

June 23rd (Wednesday) Positive Discipline for Preschoolers

This workshop offers a thorough, practical program that is easily adaptable to any childcare or preschool setting. Discussed will be the children's goals for misbehavior: undue attention; want for power; revenge, and feelings of inadequacy (giving up). In two hours we will learn how to create a setting where children can laugh, learn, and grow and how to encourage parents to establish a partnership with you and provide the same kind, firm limits at home.

August 19th She Made Me Do It!
It's often difficult for children to understand that actions lead to consequences. In this workshop we will discuss how to handle angry feelings; how to help children learn self-control and separate their feelings from their actions (Sara made me so mad, so I hit her!) Lots of discussion and practice.
